Without exaggeration, there are as many variantions of Greek dishes as there are Greeks and this cookbook is a wonder if you are as big of fan of Greek and Mediterranean food as I am. The recipes are consistently Greek and exemplify how immigrants take local ingredients and their culinary traditions and mix them into something special and all their own. There are so many recipes here that I would happily (and could easily) cook today, but I think what is really outstanding in this cookbook is the "Miscellaneous" chapter with its excellent summary on Green wine and liquers and special customs and small-bite sweets within the Greek community.

This iThroughout the span of its history, the Daughters of Penelope has served as a vital vehicle for the progressive development and emergence of many American citizens of Greek heritage into every facet of society: government, business, education, and the arts. This fulfillment illustrates the promise of the American Dream and symbolizes the hard work ethic of their immigrant forbearers who labored to achieve that dream with the principles of Hellenism rooted deep in their hearts.
