Refund Policies

Books and Kitchen Tools/Decor

We try very hard to ensure that customers are satisfied with their purchases and are happy to work with customers to resolve issues with their order.

General Returns and Exchanges

In certain circumstances, returns will be accepted up to 30 days from the date of purchase.  Valid circumstances are generally related to errors in conditioning of used and out-of-print books, undisclosed damage, or damage during shipping.

Unfortunately, at this time we cannot support returns for exchange or store credit. 

Damaged Items:

We do our best to ensure that items arrive to you in excellent condition, but also understand that unfortunate things can happen during the shipping process. 

If the item was damaged during shipment, please email hello@blackbirdcookbooks.com with a photo of the items and its packing material and we will work with you to address the issue appropriately.

Initiating a Return:

  1. Please email hello@blackbirdcookbooks.com with the return reason and any pictures of damage.
  2. Package the item up securely.  The original packaging is usually fine, but we generally find it better to shake the box a bit and ensure that the item is not sliding around.  After that, just tape it up securely with packing tape and you're ready to ship.
  3. Ship the book back to Blackbird Cookbooks using the address in your return authorization email.  Please note that the buyer is responsible for return shipping costs in most circumstances.
  4. All returns will be compared to the original seller's notes in the product record.  Returns must be received without any additional marking, stains, smells, or other signs of use (outside of those noted in the seller's notes or any damage incurred during shipment).  New books must be returned in the original packaging in new condition.  If damage is found, we will not be able to accept the return.
  5. Refunds will be issued back to the customer in the original form of payment. 

Once the item is received, we will email you within two business days to let you know we've received your item and initiate the return.  Please note that refund timelines can vary by payment type and bank processor and can sometimes take up to 30 days to reflect on your statement.

 

Cooking Classes

What happens if Blackbird Cookbooks cancels a class?

In the event that your class is canceled due to bad weather, low enrollment, or other circumstances, we will notify you as soon as possible by email and issue you a full refund to the original form of payment.

What happens if a customer is not able to attend a class?

We completely understand if availability, health, or scheduling changes and want to ensure that our cooking class participants have a positive experience with our cooking classes.  While we try to be as flexible as possible, however in many instances we incur service fees and other expenses when participants cancel.  As such, our cancellation policies are outlined below.

Cancellations/Refunds

  • If canceled within 3 weeks or more notice, a partial refund will be issued, less a 10% registration fee.
  • If canceled between 2 -3 weeks notice, a 50% refund will be issued.
  • If canceled with less than 2 weeks notice, no refund will be issued.

Class Transfers/Exchanges

If you would like to exchange your reservation for a cooking class for an alternate date or class, please contact us as soon as you know.  All exchanges and transfers are dependent upon space availability in the desired class at the time that the transfer request is made - please know that we cannot automatically transfer waitlisted participants if a spot in a preferred class becomes available.  Class transfers and exchanges are governed by the following timelines:

  • More than 1 week notice, transfers/exchanges to any class with available spaces is permitted with no penalty.
  • More than 48 hours, transfers to any class with available spaces will be charged an additional 10% transfer fee.
  • Less than 48 hours notice, no transfers can be made.
  • If you are not able to attend a cooking class and wish to have someone attend in your place, please let us know up to 24 hours in advance and we will do our best to accommodate.  Please note that all participants must be at least 13 years old (no exceptions).
