The Congressional Club began in 1908 as a social club for the wives and daughters of Representatives, Senators, Supreme Court Justices, and Cabinet members. The mission of the club was to create a sense of camaraderie between the two parties in Washington DC and create a natural social circle for the disparate wives who came and went each political season. The Congressional Club is still in operation today - visitors can view the club and its collection of First Ladies' gowns by appointment. Cookbooks are also still available for sale.
