Shop Notes:

An excellent cookbook featuring many favorite North Carolina recipes, including Mountain Apple Cake (a less labor-intensive, but still delicious version of Apple Stack Cake), oven-braised Eastern Pork Barbeque (yes, I know it's not real BBQ...but we all make this and its still delicious and much easier), Watermelon Rind Pickles and a whole host of other use recipes.

About the Author:

The Junior League of Fayetteville strives to assist in the prevention of homelessness and food insecurity and related concerns affecting children and families in our communities. In 1960, Jane Williamson, Jan Stedman, and Ellenor Barker saw need for a local volunteer group and asked Martha Hutaff to advise them in forming a service league, with the goal of eventually joining the Association of the Junior Leagues.  Their initial projects focused on the establishment and operation of a Day Care Nursery to benefit the local area, but have sense expanded until a wide variety of projects on education and mental health.

In 1978, they published the Carolina Collection with an initial run of 10,000 copies.  An additional run of 10,000 copies was required a year later.  The Junior League of Fayetteville then re-released an earlier cookbook, From Market to Mealtime, in 1984 and offered both as a single collection during local fundraising fairs.  In 1988, both cookbooks were featured in a national publication called "Cookbook USA" by Anne Patterson.  The cookbooks remained popular through the 1990s.
