This fun little community cookbook likely developed for visitor's to the popular Lake Lure area. The recipe are at the heart of traditional Appalachian cuisine, but modernized for the contemporary cook and kitchen. There's a little bit of everything to love here.
You'll find everything from Southern Coconut Cake and Chicken Pot Pie to traditional regional Appalachian recipes like Liver Nips and 125 year old Black Walnut pound cake (the recipe, not the cake). One particular standout is in the Appetizers chapter where the author's provided chow-chow recipes for both green and ripe tomatoes. If you've never had Western Carolina chow-chow, you've got to try it.

The Bill's Creek community in Western North Carolina is located near Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure, just about 30 miles outside of Asheville. A history of farming, military service, baseball prowess, hunting, trapping, and neighborly support characterize this unique Western Carolina community.

Bill's Creek community has a pool of talented residents from all walks of life that have joined together to build a library, multiple fire stations with search and rescue capacity, and ambulance services. The acclaimed Rumbling Bald Resort boasts not one, but two championship golf courses that are complemented by three first-class restaurants. The views and amenities offered at the resort are second-to-none.
The community also offers hiking, horseback riding, lake activities, and fishing. During the season, local farms are open to visitors offering fresh produce, herbs, and vegetables, which many of the area restaurants utilize in their menus.
