About the Author:

The Junior League of McAllen, Inc. (JLM) was organized January 18, 1938, as the Junior Service League of McAllen.  The first year found members hearing lectures on social service work, assisting with health exams and vaccinations, and having the inaugural charity ball to purchase the first oxygen tent for the hospital. Today, the JLM is made up of women who are interested in working with other women to serve the community.  JLM women are professional, educated women who have many roles and responsibilities outside of League including work and family.  They are part of a long-standing tradition of past Leaguers who have left a legacy in McAllen.  JLM women continue to support JLM through a lifetime of volunteerism and membership.

They have published two cookbooks, La Pinata in 1976 and Some Like It Hot in 1992.
