This community cookbook with over 1.2 million copies sold is considered by most to be the true textbook of Louisiana cuisine. Cajun, Creole, and Deep South flavors are richly preserved in authentic gumbos, jambalayas, courts-bouillons, pralines, and more. Inducted into the McIlhenny Hall of Fame, an award given for book sales that exceed 100,000 copies.

River Road Recipes I, II and III are all included in the Walter S. McIlhenny Community Cookbook Hall of Fame. The real winner, however, is the Baton Rouge community, which has benefited from more than $3 million derived from cookbook sales and donated by the Junior League of Baton Rouge to local charitable and educational projects.

 From the Publisher:

River Road Recipes is the nation's #1 best-selling community cookbook series. This cookbook features classic creole and cajun cuisine. These 650 recipes include the basics like How to Make a Roux. This is the Textbook of Louisiana cooking. Review One of the finest, most exciting regional cookbooks to be found in America. --Craig Claiborne

About the Author:

The Junior League of Baton Rouge have published four cookbooks in its library: River Roads, River Roads II, River Roads III, and River Roads IV. The first two are the strongest and, I would argue, most traditional. The latter two focus more on health and nutrition from the 1980s/90s perspective (think low fat, high carb, but each recipe does have a nutritional analysis that makes the book still relevant today) and modern cuisine, respectively.
